Something unforgettable is happening...
Welcome!
On behalf of MAIS and our conference host school, The American Cooperative School of Tunis (ACST), we warmly welcome you to the MAIS Annual Teachers and Administrators Conference, Nov. 15-19, 2023.
The conference theme, Opening Doors to Learning, has been chosen to resonate ACST’s mission, Opening Doors, Hearts, and Minds. MAIS members make tremendous contributions in teaching and practice; effective educators are the decisive element that positively impacts student learning, well-being, motivation and resilience. It is critical that we recognize and support the outstanding work our school communities accomplish and continue building positive school cultures.
We have an exciting program with Interactive sessions that explore critical, timely topics, deep-dive breakouts, and ready-to-apply strategies; to allow participants to jointly experience and reflect upon current and future teaching and learning practices. The program will include keynote and concurrent sessions by expert speakers, and experiences to connect and collaborate.
At this conference let us open our hearts and our minds to learning; connect to share our thoughts and exchange ideas on how to design even more efficient and effective learning experiences for our students; and celebrate what we, as educators, can achieve.

Opening Doors To What School Could Be
I have an unusual vantage point on the future of our children and our nation. I spent my career in the world of innovation, and my track record there suggests I might know a bit about it. And over the past decade, I’ve immersed myself in the world of education. I don’t claim to have the expertise our classroom teachers have, and I respect their insights — celebrate them, actually. But I have insights into the world our children will live in as adults, and the ways this future ought to affect the way we educate children. I fight every day to do what I can to help give children a creative, uplifting education that prepares them to lead lives of purpose. Make no mistake, the challenges are serious. But so are the opportunities.

Creating a Culture of Safety and Belonging
As international educators and leaders, we are uniquely positioned to create more inclusive school communities where every individual can thrive. Fostering a culture of psychological safety and belonging is critical for creating opportunities for all members of a school community to listen and learn with each other to create a more diverse and equitable environment. From the classroom to the boardroom, all of us can contribute meaningfully to this work, while supporting our students in becoming globally conscious, life-long learners.
